How can I help?
As a tutor, I can provide support for students in the run up to examinations and at any moments where they might be having a 'wobble'. I aim to establish clarity and build students' confidence. With over a decade's experience in preparing students for examinations, I can also help with the ever elusive 'exam technique' and improving quality of extended written communication.
I can also provide subject specialist support for students interested in further challenge - for example, with A Level Latin Prose Composition or Classical Greek Literature, as well as bridging courses for university.

Tutoring Experience

I first discovered Latin over twenty years ago and since then have grown to love the classical world more and more. I studied Classics (Latin and Greek) at the University of Bristol, where I achieved a first class degree, and followed this up with a distinction at Masters in Classics and Ancient History. I went straight into teaching after that, gaining an initial teaching qualification and qualified teacher status while working full time in an independent girls' school. Since then eleven years have sped by - I have experience teaching in some of the best performing schools in the country and have been fortunate over my career to teach a range of qualifications, including GCSE, A Levels, IB and Pre-U. I am currently Head of Classics at an independent school in the north of England.

Tutoring Approach

I believe in making lessons positive and targeted to help the individual. I love the ancient world, including its languages and want to share this enthusiasm with my students. Latin and Greek can sometimes be daunting - but they don't need to be (even if I've lost count of the number of 'it's all Greek to me' jokes!) By focusing on the core principles of the languages and encouraging students to work out the key patterns, there is a lot that can be achieved in a short period of time.

I offer a free 30 minute introductory lesson/meeting for us to meet and discuss how we might work together as well as answer any questions you may have.
