As a tutor I teach:
Biology, Chemistry and Physics GCSE
Chemistry AS and A level
Chemistry International Baccalaureate (IB)
As well as an experienced teacher, I am also a devoted family man. My two children have graduated from university having studied medicine and law; I am aware of the hardships that studies such as chemistry can cause. I have always had a passion for the subject but this is by no means my only area of interest. My love for science is combined with a love for the arts and I spend a great deal of my spare time painting.
I have been in main stream teaching for 31 years, in which time i have taught all abilities for both sexes in a range of schools. This includes the exceptionally performing students who aim for top careers in careers such as medicine. I have also taught all age groups from Year 7 all the way to Year 13, but my main focus is GCSE and A level chemistry.
I most recently taught at the Leigh Academy in Dartford (previously the Leigh CTC) between the years 1998 and 2016, where I held the post of head of chemistry. I have also been a private tutor for the past 15 years and have enjoyed excellent success with my students in achieving the grades they required.
I have a wealth of experience with the majority of examination boards and I am well aware of each of their specifications.
I tutor catering to the needs of each student individually; an initial assessment session involving simple questions and answers on a few basic topics helps me to identify the student's ability. Going from there I then see what the pupil wants, depending on whether they simply require aid with a few short topics or an in depth analysis of the syllabus. I use a range of past exam papers and key resources, combined of course with their exam board requirements. As an experienced teacher I have also compiled my own extensive notes that are easy to understand and are available to students. So far, all of these combined have been highly successful with many students going into higher education in top universities.
I am happy to continue face-to-face sessions provided that adequate safety precautions are taken.
