Online Chemistry and Biology Tuition

I have graduated with a 2.1 in Biology BSc degree at Queen Mary University of London and I recently completed my MSc in Global Health and Development at UCL, in September 2020 with a Distinction.
My interests lie in both science and literature. In my spare time enjoy reading and exercising.

Tutoring Experience

Since joining FirstTutors, I have tutored A Level, GCSE and primary school students (11+ applicants). I have previously worked at my primary school, where I tutored a small group of children in preparation for 11+ examinations (including verbal and non-verbal reasoning). I also helped them with English and Mathematics. Some of these students went on to study at selective secondary schools as a result.
I am well acquainted with the 9-1 grading system for GCSEs, and having been the last year of students to sit the modular AS and A-Level examinations, I am also aware of the linear system. As a Biology and Global Health graduate, I am comfortable tutoring university undergraduate students reading a biology degree, or related modules such as biochemistry or genetics.
I can also help with university applications, personal statements, CV improvement, interview practice and medical school entrance exams. Lastly, I can help with revision planning.

Tutoring Approach

I only offer online tutoring. I have the appropriate skills and equipment to provide seamless tuition online, and have already done so with some students. I am happy to discuss the details once we are in contact via messages on this platform.

First and foremost, I am flexible with my tutoring approach, adapting to my students' needs.
I have a step-by-step approach to teaching.
Upon first meeting, I get to know the student's strengths and weaknesses, by either guiding them through practice questions or having them show me questions/areas of knowledge they struggle with. Based on this, I then work with my students to make a list of what we need to cover (often from the exam specification), in the time we have together, so we can set goals to work towards. I am friendly, patient and approachable, which I think are important qualities for tutors because students need to feel comfortable when learning.
I encourage the use of practice questions both to become accustomed to the exam style, but to also get used to the way of answering questions in order to hit all marking criteria. It is also a good guide for finding areas of knowledge that the students might be confused about. This is a particularly good strategy for GCSE and A-Level practice.
I can also help with study plans and revision techniques having tried a wide variety myself, before finding the best methods for me.
Through all this, I aim to make my sessions as interactive and beneficial as possible.
I am easily contactable if you would like to enquire about tutoring.
