I work in IT but I've always had a passion for Maths and teaching. I'm originally from Greece and moved to Portsmouth in 1998 to study Maths at the University and I've now settled here with my lovely 2 children (12 and 16 years).
I completed a BSc (Hon) in Maths at Portsmouth Uni but then got into working in IT. I used to tutor first year University students, couple hours on weekends, but then lockdown happened and I just got busy with everyday life. I got back to tutoring last year by helping my son with GCSE Higher Maths. Got him from a predicted 5, to a 7.
I also have an enhanced DBS form because I volunteer at my daughters school
I always tailor my teaching depending on the student. I start by assessing their strengths and weaknesses and identify any gaps in their knowledge. I try to understand their preferred learning style, visual/auditory, and adapt accordingly.
Provide clear explanations for mathematical concepts, use visual aids, diagrams, and real-life examples to enhance understanding. Regularly practice past GCSE exam papers and analyse answers together, emphasizing time management and exam techniques. I use mock exams to simulate exam conditions to build confidence and motivation.
