I teach Clarinet, Saxophone, Flute (including Jazz for these three) and Recorder (including treble) as well as Music Theory. I also accompany and prepare children for music exams and auditions.
I play the clarinet to a high level and can double on saxophone. I direct choirs and singing days for children and adults, and I arrange music, especially for school ensembles.
I am honours degree qualified in Music and have a PGCE (7-12) with Music specialism. I qualified in 1987. Since then I have taught in Primary, Middle and Upper Schools as class teacher and head of subject, including Music and Special Needs, and as a peripatetic teacher. I'm Director of Music for a church and currently teach woodwind in two schools.
I was Senior Lead teacher for Hertfordshire Music Service, including varied roles and responsibilities over 18 years, including individual teaching, small and large groups, Whole Class First Access, ensembles - choral and instrumental, leading training, planning curricula, leading a Saturday Music School, arranging music, organising concerts, teaching theory, mentoring, leading music making days and numerous other practical activities. I trained as an Associated Board Music Medals Assessor and have completed the Sing Up Training Providers’ Certificate. I achieved a Performance Diploma on the Clarinet in 2017.
I enjoy teaching beginners, making it fun and getting them off the ground quickly in their music making. I teach at a more advanced level too, particularly for clarinet, which is my main instrument. I'm not fixed in my approach, some will want to whizz along and others will prefer to take it slower. I work with pupils and parents in the ways they prefer.
