Born and raised in Newcastle, I'm married with two sons. I've spent all my working life advising business owners and learning how business works in the real world.
I have been a chartered accountant for over 20 years and have spent all of that time mentoring and advising clients through the ups and inevitable downs of business ownership. The people skills I have developed during this time are directly transferable to tutoring. I have certainly found this to be the case with my own son who I am tutoring towards Business Studies GCSE.
I believe detail is incredibly important but, without holistic knowledge and understanding, it can only take the student so far. I constantly seek to contextualise individual topics to ensure the student understands how they fit into the bigger picture. It is by demonstrating such overarching knowledge and understanding that students can achieve higher performance outcomes in their exams. Another key aspect of my approach is my ability to use my real world experience to present the student with practical examples of fundamental principles and, in doing so, deepen their understanding of the subject matter.
