I have worked in a number of different Industry sectors which require maths from construction, manufacturing, It and banking. I move into teaching later in life and love to see students grasp new ideas and concepts. My background usually means I can see the importance of each topic.
I am a qualified maths teacher and have been teaching for 9 years. I have taught all ages and abilities from year 7 up to and including A level Further maths. At A level, I specialise in applied maths such as mechanics and statistics. Prior to being a teacher, I was a teaching assistant and worked with very weak students and was able to get them to see the importance and relevance of maths.
I believe that students learn when they are enjoying it, and remember when the see the relevance. I try to make the topics interesting and show where they are used in real life. The new curriculum is based on problem solving and I like to get students to think about how they would find solutions to the questions. I like to work through problem solving questions , getting students understand the topic and knowing how to start the question. Understanding what is being asked is the foundation that we can build on. My enthusiasm for maths comes across very strong.
