Due to covid, and now seasonal flu, both presenting a very real threat to health I am, at present and for the foreseeable future, only offering online tuition. This is still a very valuable method of learning for struggling students when done well. I offer a high degree of one-on-one interactivity. The sessions are also cheaper for the client even though the same amount of time and effort is put into constructing each session. This must, therefore, offer better value to the client.
If you’re still reading: My proudest achievement is, as a single parent, to have successfully steered my children through their Primary, Secondary, and University education. They are both working graduates with burgeoning careers ahead of them and wonderful human beings. I am only a few years off retirement but have no plans to stop tutoring as I still enjoy the process of educating children in the subjects I still love dearly.
I have been a full-time private tutor since 2009 and enjoy the processes very much. I have taught Maths and Science as a fulltime teacher at both Secondary and FE college level from 11-year-olds to adults. I have tutored all age groups, from preschool to university degree students and adult learners.
I am a First-Class Honours Chemistry graduate who has 20+ years work experience, beginning in analytical chemistry. I later moved into chemistry research, becoming proficient in organic synthesis and later in physical and computational chemistry.
Though our schools have some excellent teachers the student’s learning is always compromised by the issue of class sizes. One-on-one tuition puts the individual student at the heart of all activities during a session. I remind my students frequently that there is no shame in them not understanding something. I encourage them to challenge me if they do not understand. The onus is on me to find a way of presenting a concept so the individual student can grasp the idea and then run with it! All of us have an innate desire to learn and are rewarded with a sense of euphoria once enlightened. I strive to get all my students to that point where they wish to push themselves to learn more.
