I returned to teaching thirteen years ago after working as a statistician for eighteen years.
I have taught maths, part time, one-to-one, in small groups and in whole classes at several secondary schools in Tyne and Wear as well as at further education colleges, covering all ages up to A level. I have also taught adults under the 'lifelong learning' scheme.
I enjoy explaining maths at all levels of ability and get real satisfaction from connecting at the student's level. I believe I'm good at recognising what that level is and being able to adjust my explanations accordingly. I'm pretty relaxed and like my students to feel comfortable during our sessions. My approach is to identify areas of weakness, explain concepts from basics, then do some questions till confidence is achieved.
