Hi, I'm Mathangi! I'm currently a 3rd year medical student studying at the University of Glasgow, and am tutoring part-time for two of my favourite subjects Biology and Maths.
I have had tutoring experience since secondary school, where I volunteered in my home town to teach primary school children the sciences and Maths. It was there I learned how to incorporate games and interactive quizzes to keep the students attentive and engaged. At college, I also tutored my juniors and siblings at secondary school level in the sciences and Maths, and have always enjoyed delving deep into the concepts taught in classes and explaining the more complex ones to my friends when they did not understand.
Being a student for most of my life, I can share some study tips that have worked for me, especially while learning online. Through tutoring and using this method personally, I have found that integrating spaced repetition and active recall is an effective way of retaining the key points and concepts, particularly in Biology where terminology and processes are important. After going over a topic or chapter, there will be a short quiz to help consolidate your understanding of the area, and we would return to the chapter a few weeks later to quickly recap on what has been learned.
For Maths, as the formulas and theories are significant mainly in their application, we would be doing more questions and I would guide you through them when we reach any point of difficulty.
That being said, each student learns differently, and we would work together to find out what works to make the best use of class. I would be happy to receive any feedback on how you'd prefer to learn the subjects.
