Matt has been a simply brilliant A'Level biology tutor for our daughter. He is extremely personable and enthusiastic with an evident passion for biology. He has an in-depth knowledge of his subject and the exam board requirements, was excellent at explaining at times complex A'Level content, was happy to go over and over areas until he was sure that our daughter understood them, and provided detailed subject notes which our daughter found invaluable and did a lot of her revision from. As turors go he is a real gem.

I selected Matthew based on his profile which I liked. His fees as published on Firsttutors is £75, which is what I accepted when I paid the finder's fees. As soon as Matthew's details were released I was informed by him that the fees will be increasing to £80 for weekly lessons due to inflation, which is beyond my budget. The fees for the fortnightly lessons, which is what I require, will be £90 but during a slot unsuitable for me as priority will be given to weekly students. I would have appreciated if Matthew had clarified this to me during our email exchange where I had made my requirements clear before I paid the finder's fees and purchased his details. I am disappointed that I wasn't given the opportunity to make an informed choice.

Dear Anu, your comments are quite valid and I apologise for the misunderstanding. I am on vacation at present until September 12th and my attention is not really on the teaching until then. I have not had time to upgrade my terms and conditions for next year as I am on vacation. As a gesture of goodwill (and as stated in my original message to you) I am quite willing to refund the fees that you have paid to get my contact details via this site if you can kindly let me have your personal contact and bank details. As a further gesture of goodwill I am willing to teach your son at the rate of £75 per hour that was advertised in the advert that you saw. However, I am unable to do anything about having to put your son as the last student of the day (so that I am not sitting there earning nothing every other week) and having to push that time to later in the day (latest being 8-30 pm) as I get more students later in the year. I teach up to 55 hours per week and it is really not feasible for me to teach students every other week without major disruption to my schedule. I do apologise for not having upgraded my terms and conditions (which I shall do right now) due to my being on vacation and hence not having got around to upgrading my profile or had time to deal with the details of your enquiry until now. Without excusing myself in any way I had thought we had agreed that you would contact me again in September when I was back to the teaching and the we could have sorted-out the details before you decided to purchase my contact information. Instead you just jumped-in and bought my details before I had had time to let you know my updates. My catching Covid in the middle of the vacation did not help! I really apologise if you feel that my service has fallen below the excellent standard that I have set over the past 33 years of being a full-time tutor with generally excellent reviews.

Matthew is currently tutoring my daughter to prepare for her Biology A level retake in October. My daughter rates him very highly and thinks he has been helpful in teaching her content which was not covered at school and also in refining her exam technique. Chris got a Grade A in his IGCSE. However, there is a great fall in recent lower-sixth term. He has accumulated many confusion. Matthew as a professional and experienced tutor. He would provide and email his well-organised notes prior to the lesson. Chris could read and print out them in advance. That enhances lesson effect. Matthew tackled and explained those topic clearly. Chris feels very grateful to have the lesson. Last but not the least, Matthew never gets hesitation in responding to Chris enquiry even out of the lesson period. That really helpful to Chris. A great comfort to parents too. Lesson with Matthew is worth. Matthew, thanks a lot.

Mathew responded at short notice to a request to provide some assistance to my son Joe. I was a little uncertain as to whether online tuition would work but after just three lessons, Matthew has really helped build Joe's confidence. Joe prefers the online system and clearly finds thd method of study and advice provided beneficial. I am certain from what Joe has told me that he will see the benefit of working with Matthew when taking his exams.

Matthew was very professional and readily contactable when arranging tuition and happy to answer questions. Although just a few lessons in I have only positive feedback to offer.

I have had both face to face and online tuition with Matthew; although at first I was hesitant to try online tuition, I was pleasantly surprised and now use it predominantly for its convenience since I see no difference in quality. I would highly recommend Matthew not only for his teaching style but also for his resources; teaching for over 20 years means that Matthew has been able to provide me with a vast array of relevant exam questions, and it also means that he knows the syllabus well and can speak from personal experience.
