Hi, I'm Maya! I am a recent graduate from the University of Cambridge, where I studied Natural Sciences (First class), and I am going to be starting medical school in September. At A-Level I studied Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Spanish (A*A*A*A), plus an EPQ.

Tutoring Experience

I have been tutoring in both Chemistry and Biology at A-Level and GCSE for a few years now, and I am familiar with both OCR and AQA specifications. My experience has allowed to refine my tutoring approach and develop the communication skills which are essential to teaching difficult topics.

My tutor sessions are tailored to the tutee - I make sure that I have a good understanding of what they would like to work on, their strengths and weaknesses, and the level that they are working at.

A good portion of tutor sessions focus on teaching content and ensuring that it is understood. This is achieved with the help of diagrams and frequent questions, getting the tutee to really think about the content and improving recall. The rest of the session is dedicated to approaching past exam questions relevant to the topic being learnt. In this part of the session, I focus on developing exam technique and applying content knowledge to exam questions - both of which are essential to doing well in an exam scenario.

Overall, my approach is individualised, holistic and thorough, focusing on the important aspects of succeeding in exams and ensuring a good understanding of the subject.
