I have always had a great passion for teaching and working with young adults and young people.
I have worked in a variety of educational settings including colleges, independent learning providers and privately as a tutor. I have been
tutoring young people, children and adults for the past 20 years and have incorporated working as a youth worker for many years alongside my role as a teacher.
I have tutored students for many years both privately and also at educational establishments. My more recent role for the past 3 years has been teaching GCSE English Language in Further education. This has included teaching, training and assessing students to the quality standards set by the college. Planning and delivering lessons whilst monitoring and supporting student’s academic progress. Applying a variety of delivery methods to stimulate learning that is appropriate to the student’s needs and the demands of the syllabus. Alongside the above I have also worked as a private tutor teaching English GCSE for the past 5 years. This role has included
Tutoring and supporting children with GCSE English Language on a one-to-one basis via face-to-face or online teaching. Creating a personalised tutoring plan based on their current curriculum at school or college.
I have substantial experience working with young people. Experience that includes working with NEET young people, unaccompanied Asylum seeking children (UASC) and those from the Gypsy and Traveller community.
I believe every child, young person and adult foremost has to be in a relaxed, safe secure setting before any teaching can take place. It is vital for any student to build a rapport with their tutor to enable effective tutoring to take place. From my personal experience face to face teaching has always been the most effective method of delivery, as this helps to build rapport and helps to quickly assess the students learning capability and the pace of learning they are comfortable with.
I like to prepare tailored one-on-one lesson plans which helps to boost a students confidence and also helps to identify their strengths and weaknesses.
Leading towards the exam months I will also be supporting students with their exam preparation using exam strategies and revision techniques.
