I have had a life that has involved a great deal of interesting challenges. After graduating and becoming a qualified teacher I built my own farming business then spent a number of years in agricultural education and development in the Indian Ocean (Seychelles) eventually managing one of the main islands. On return to the UK I managed one of the largest horticultural operations in the UK. In 2003 I returned to teaching, science and biology. I retired from teaching in August 2014.
I am easy to get on with, have a great sense of humour and am quite competitive. I love living in the countryside, love animals and will go the extra mile to help anyone who is determined to succeed.
15 years total in UK, I have taught in both state high schools and private schools in the UK. For the period September 2003 to August 2014 I was teaching science (KS3 ) and Biology (GCSE,AS,A2) My experience covers all ability levels including Oxbridge entrants.
All lesson observations both OFSTED and internal during the last three years have been rated outstanding. " A very gentle but extremely skilled practitioner" OFSTED March 2013
I am very adaptable, my primary concern is to help the student achieve the target they have set themselves. Much depends on the student's objectives, the time available, the student's other commitments as well as their current level of attainment and their academic ability.
My general approach is to prioritise understanding and I think that having a background involving a deal of hands-on experience in a wide range of situations helps me to link much of the theory to practical applications. I have developed a wide range of materials to back up my lessons.
