Unfortunately Michael was a wrong fit and unsuitable to tutor my son who has special needs due to little experience working with SEN kids.Joanna
I am sorry that the sessions didn't work out. The issue was not, however, that I cannot teach SEN because I am able to teach at all abilities provided the level I am expected to teach at is reasonable.
Instead, in my opinion, Mrs Watson's son was being put forward for GCSEs and the subject matter was too advanced, particularly given his issues with working memory.
For example, I was teaching Of Mice and Men to someone who much preferred George and His Magic Medicine and algebra to someone who could not understand decimal places and needed to calculate four times table on his fingers.
The times when we focused on areas which came naturally (see Roald Dahl) we had a good time and things went well.
From the very get-go, I told Mrs Watson that I thought studying for GCSE was unrealistic but that is what the school had decreed should happen. GCSE is hard even for my other pupils - and it's just got harder.
So, to conclude, ON THE CONTRARY, it was from this knowledge and experience of teaching GCSE and my working with pupils of all abilities that I foresaw Mrs Watson's son would really struggle with GCSE.
I wish Mrs Watson and her son the best.

Michael managed to pickup on gaps and started working straight away with literacy. by second lesson Michael came well prepared topping up with knowledge and thoughts making our ds come up with own ideas.I had asked Michael to support with 11plus Mainly english which I believe is going very well and would be happy to recommend anyone lacking or straggling to find intrest on literacy as was looking for someone with good sence of humour as well as able to get through to my child.
My ds enjoys and looks forward to the next lessons

Michael is a thoughtful and caring man, and immediately established a good rapport with my child, having carefully considered the information I gave him about my son before they met. My son enjoys their sessions greatly. Michael is good at getting my son interested in thinking, which is exactly what I had asked him to do. He is flexible, so able to flow with the mood of the day, yet seems to get through quite a lot each time. He isn't afraid of tackling difficult areas, and seems to possess a firm gentleness that allows him to reflect realistically to my son where he is going wrong and guide him towards the right direction comfortably.
