Dr Michael Dunn has 20 years of lecturing experience. He was awarded his PhD in Psychology in 2004 (Cardiff University). He has been a post-doctoral researcher, possesses a PGCE (Higher Education), is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, has published over 20 articles in high ranking psychology journals and has appeared on both TV and radio. He has been also been the recipient of a prestigious, student-nominated 'Teaching Excellence Award'. He has helped secure a record number of First class degrees/dissertation projects for students under his tutelage.
I graduated with a first class honours degree in Psychology (the only first in the entire humanities cohort this particular year) in 1998 then secured a BBSRC PhD studentship in 2000 in Cardiff University (Psychology Department) and was subsequently awarded my PhD in 2004. I then embarked on post-doctoral research for a year again at Cardiff University followed by a brief Lectureship in Swansea University before securing a Lectureship/Senior Lectureship in Cardiff Metropolitan University between 2005 and 2021. In this post I was awarded a PGCE (HE) and became Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2008. My teaching skills are exemplified by being awarded the prestigious 'Student nominated' 'Teaching Excellence Award' in 2018, having been nominated every year since its inception in 2013. Specialising in Dissertation supervision, I secured more firsts for projects than any other lecturer.
The most important aspect of one to one tuition, and the strategy that more so guarantees success, is that from the outset, the tutor must become aware of the goals of the student and subsequently devise a workable, mutually agreeable strategy to attain those goals.
