My name is Moira Removed. I have extensive experience as a teacher of English (20 years) spanning primary to A Level/Advanced Higher. I have been Head of a large English and Expressive Arts Faculty, and worked as a senior examiner for KS2, KS3, GCSE, AS/A2 English Language and English Literature. For 10 years, I worked in a university, where I was head of training for post graduate and undergraduate secondary teachers of English. I also headed up the Primary English course. My most recent employment has included: writing course books for primary English; training teachers in the UK and abroad on how to raise standards in reading and writing ; working for various exam boards writing mark schemes and assessment programmes. I moved to Scotland in 2021. I currently work as an Associate Tutor on Glasgow University's Teacher Education programme, and provide individual tuition for National 5 and Higher English- online and face to face.. My Scottish students all gained A grades in 2023. I have now settled permanently in the Scottish Borders (Galashiels). References are available.

Tutoring Approach

An initial assessment is used to inform an individual teaching/learning programme: achieving examination success is considered a key aim. But, whoever the student, whatever their starting point, I want them to realise their potential. And they do. I can honestly say that all my students ( over many years) have achieved the success they deserve.
Previous tutees have variously described my working methods as 'engaging...highly effective...rigorous...' I would like to describe myself as friendly and reassuring!
