I have a strong grasp of a range of pedagogical approaches, including an ability to deliver content that builds upon students’ technical foundations alongside the development of musical maturity. I have a considerable knowledge of pedagogical approaches that places student success and well-being at the heart of everything I do. I am able, therefore, to draw upon a variety of teaching styles with an ability to lead classes focussing on both technique and performing styles, as well as nurturing students on a personal basis.
Alongside the gaining of valuable teaching experience, my professional education has further focused and developed my performing skills. I am a legatee of the Russian piano school of Heinrich Neuhaus, an education that gave me a comprehensive knowledge of the piano and chamber music repertoire. Importantly, my newly accomplished MPhil analyses of Rachmaninov’s piano sonatas, and the issues of their performance interpretation, included my own rendition of both works. Indeed, this research demonstrates a historical, musicological and spiritual approach to the interpretative challenges within my own practice, and I bring this same rigour and artistry to my teaching and performance practice.
