I’m a passionate tutor of Maths, English and Media Studies specialising in building confidence, developing greater depth knowledge and exam preparation. My love for people and my training in learner centred pedagogy overflow into my tutoring; and my warmth as a person helps my students relax and engage easily with new learning.

My background was originally in Media and Communication - researching, teaching and lecturing at university - before I began tutoring both children and adults throughout their academic path towards 11+, SAT, GCSE and A Level examinations.

Most importantly, I'm kind, friendly, gentle and personable. I like people, and that makes a big difference in my life - and especially in my tutoring.

Tutoring Experience

I have provided tuition for many students privately in both Maths and English at 11+, SATs and GCSE levels as well as Media Studies up to degree level, building confidence by supplementing their ongoing school- or home-based learning and preparing them for exams.

My joy has been seeing these students attain the grades they need and gaining mastery in the topics they have previously found challenging.

My experience in teaching and lecturing Media and Communication at university for both diploma and degree levels included providing pastoral care for these students, which worked itself out at both the group and personal levels. My role as a university lecturer also involved supervising and examining postgraduate students' thesis projects at Masters Degree level.

Apart from academic teaching, I have trained leaders from various contexts in organisational communication, public relations and written communication in both the corporate and voluntary contexts.

Tutoring Approach

I always approach tuition by prioritising the needs and aims of the individual, working carefully from their current understanding on each topic, effectively guiding them into mastery. I work with the student to find new, fresh and unique ways for them to remember the things they learn, and to equip them to explore and discover for themselves.

For learners preparing for 11+, SATs, GCSE and A Level exams, building strong foundations in the years or months leading up to these academic landmarks is critical. Laying those foundations is my passion and forte.

In summary, I find great joy in teaching, whatever the age or academic level. I care for people and want with all my heart to see every person succeed in all they do.
