My name is Nemone Removed, and I recently graduated from the University of Oxford, where I studied Philosophy and Modern Languages. I speak English, Spanish, and Portuguese, which has enabled me to work across linguistic and cultural boundaries. Currently, I volunteer with CAIWU, a trade union where I support members in all three languages, advocating for their rights and fostering clear communication.
I have a deep passion for teaching and learning. I find immense joy in building meaningful teacher-student relationships, understanding each learner’s unique needs, and inspiring confidence in their abilities. Whether I’m helping someone grasp philosophical concepts, refine their essay-writing skills, or develop language fluency, I aim to create a learning environment that is interactive, supportive, and empowering.
I have a varied background in teaching and tutoring, which has shaped my responsive and student-centred approach. In 2024, I tutored a university student in Spanish literature and writing comparative essays, focusing on developing his analytical and synthesis skills. Previously, I supported a philosophy student with philosophical logic, breaking down abstract ideas into manageable concepts through scaffolded learning strategies.
Additionally, I’ve given advice to prospective Oxford applicants, guiding them on interview preparation and encouraging self-confidence through targeted questioning and active listening. These experiences have honed my ability to support learners of different levels, each with their own challenges and goals.
My most immersive teaching role was during my year in Spain, where I taught at a bilingual school. I delivered lessons across multiple subjects, from History to Mathematics, all in English. This required careful curriculum planning and creative use of translanguaging to make challenging material accessible to students learning in their second language.
My teaching style is inherently responsive, grounded in formative assessment and an understanding of diverse learning styles. I believe interactivity is key to effective pedagogy, and I strive to build lessons that actively engage students through techniques like Socratic questioning, scaffolding, and peer instruction.
I prioritise creating a positive feedback loop in every session. By consistently seeking feedback—both explicit and implicit—I can gauge what’s being understood and adapt my teaching in real-time to meet the learner’s needs. Over time, this allows me to build a nuanced understanding of how each student learns best.
Preparation is at the heart of my practice. I approach each lesson with a clear structure and a thorough knowledge of the material, which allows me to be fully present and adaptable during sessions. My goal is to foster a sense of reliability and trust so that students feel comfortable exploring new ideas and making mistakes as part of their learning journey.
Above all, I aim to inspire curiosity and confidence. By making learning relevant, encouraging metacognitive reflection, and celebrating progress, I hope to instill a lasting enthusiasm for the subject in my students.
