I am a highly experienced, successful full time specialist English teacher of 33 years.
I am personable, caring and dedicated in my approach to tutoring.
I love tutoring English and seeing students develop and will always aim to push you to make the most progress possible.

Tutoring Experience

I have 33 years experience as a full time teacher of English, from Key stage 3 to 5. I have a particular specialism in A level tuition of English literature/Language as well as GCSE. I also tutor for the entrance exam at 11+ for KES,KEHS,EHS and Solihull School. I also tutor for the Oxbridge entry exam and Creative Writing to A level. I have experience of tutoring home schooled students and can offer expertise in this area. At present I have 54 5 star ratings which I can provide on request.
I am currently an examiner for GCSE and A level English.
I am also employed by the national charity TalentED to work with gifted and talented children.
I can also undertake proof reading(dissertations, UCAS, assignments etc).

I hold a BA(hons) degree in English, a Master's degree in modern literature and a PGCE teaching qualification. I also have an up to date CRB check as well as safeguarding training.

Tutoring Approach

Harnessing 33 years as a professional teacher and head of an English Department I always establish needs first; whether accomplished and looking to step up to the highest grade or lacking confidence in the subject and requiring a more successful approach. Past papers, exam reports(whatever the board) and sample essays showcasing good practice are central to my approach. Clear, achievable targets along with incisive feedback are at the core of what I do to build progress.
My most popular mode of delivery is 1:1 online. However, I can also offer intensive English study weeks if you are looking to catch up or small group tutoring if you want to discuss details.
