Currently a Research Assistant at the University of Oxford, Department of Psychiatry & Assistant Psychologist with the NHS. Graduated with First-class in BSc Psychology.
I am passionate about teaching and have been doing so for the past 6 years, helping students reach their educational achievements. With a wide range of teaching experience, I am confident in teaching students of different ages. I enjoy teaching a range of subjects, with a particular passion for Maths. I am DBS certified.
I achieved grade A in GCSE Maths, English, and Science. I completed my A-Levels in Maths, Biology, and Business studies.
I have excellent levels of patience and am friendly and compassionate; with a soft approach.
Seeing my students progress motivates me to teach more and more. I am happy to teach anyone wanting to learn or to refresh their learning!
I have so far taught 6 students through First Tutors over the past 6 years, all of whom I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching. I have mainly been teaching Maths, English and Arabic. I have seen my students develop and progress significantly in their learning in their specific subjects, their confidence and their skills.
I have experience in teaching both face-to-face and online, and am happy to do either - depending on the student's preferences.
(Note: For students seeking an Arabic tutor, my experiences in Arabic/Islamic studies have been outlined at the bottom)
I have excellent communication and organisational skills - which I have been able to further develop over the past 6 years through my teaching experiences. I believe these are some of the key skills necessary for effective teaching.
I spent over a year teaching at a tuition study centre, Kumon in Oxford. Here, I helped a range of different aged students - from nursery children to A-Level students - with their Maths and English tuition work. I assisted the students with their work and continuously encouraged them to seek help, in order to benefit from the tuition as much as possible and to build their confidence.
I also have experience in assisting with GCSE Maths lessons, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Here, I worked with students who required any sort of assistance with their work and prepared them for their GCSE Math exams. This was a very satisfying role for me, as I was able to help and see students learn and develop in such a short time frame.
I also attended Kumon tuition myself - where I studied Maths and was awarded many medals. This helped me develop the perspective of how students like to be taught and explained to when it comes to teaching.
For students seeking an Arabic or Islamic Studies tutor:
I have been teaching Qur’anic Arabic and Islamic studies to 7 students as well as a class of my own over the past 4 years. I am fluent in reading Arabic myself.
I have completed a 2-year Sanatayn course at Jamea Al Kauthar (an abridged version of the Alimiyyah course) from which I learnt a vast amount of Islamic knowledge and gained great insight into Islamic Studies, Islamic jurisprudence, commentary of the Qur'an, Arabic language, Tajweed and much more.
With teaching, depending on the student's preference, I like to go through the content book with them and explain anything that students may not understand or need further assistance on; giving further examples.
I also like to go through test papers with students, and whilst going through the paper, answer any questions raised by students. I like to break down and explain any questions students answer incorrectly.
If students have any schoolwork that they require assistance with, I'd also be more than happy to help with that. I like to use whiteboards to show examples of questions/situations, helping students understand their work better visually.
I understand that some students may have low confidence levels and may not be so comfortable in the beginning stages of tuition. I like to praise students for even the smallest progress they make to help boost their confidence and motivate them to work harder. I like to encourage students to ask as many questions as possible, to ensure they fully understand their work and what I teach, and to help boost their confidence levels.
