I have always been interested in Biology and the life sciences and have enjoyed sharing this passion with students in my time teaching. Out side of this I enjoy getting out in nature, being with friends, reading, gaming and playing music.
I qualified as a teacher in 2020 and since then I have been teaching Biology at secondary and A level at a Bristol School
I have always tried to work alongside students and have them take initiative as well as ownership of their own learning. My approach is to help students to identify the ways in which they learn best and provide them with the tools they need to progress in their understanding. I often encourage students to apply concepts they are familiar with to novel contexts, with this being shown in research to lead to greater retention and a deeper level of understanding. Having a background in neuroscience I have always approached teaching with an applied understanding of how students learn and actively encourage students to understand the mechanics of learning, through metacognition, to better understand their needs as a learner, with this being readily applicable to their learning in Biology as well as the wider sciences and other subjects.
