I studied Economics & French at the University of Leeds, and my areas of expertise were globalisation, international trade and the growth of the coffee industry. I began to learn Spanish through my work in the coffee industry, and am now a small business owner in the coffee supply chain. I tutor with a specialisation in the languages and subjects I have studied both academically and through work in my career so far, to avoid the pitfalls of having theory without experience. I am a social, outgoing person that thrives on helping others succeed and creating motivation through my lesson plans and structures.
I began tutoring English as a foreign language to refugees in Leeds during my university studies, and grew into tutoring GCSE and A-Level mathematics too. After enjoying this so much, I decided to move into tutoring of business and economics concepts as I moved into the world of work, where you meet the concepts in real time. Once qualifying myself in professional skills in the coffee industry, I began to teach more extensively, hosting 1-3 day courses in person and remotely for a range of practical and theoretical modules with the Speciality Coffee Association. These ranged from economic theories applied in the coffee industry context to fine and nuanced motor skills. I enjoyed teaching so much that I started my own small business teaching these accredited courses for the coffee industry, and now teach these in the UK, Spain and France.
My approach is technical but always keeps enjoyment and fun as part of the context. I use games and my real life experiences from work, life and school to provide context and enjoyment for students, often with funny examples of how things apply in the real world. My teaching structure relates to the 80:20 rule aka Pareto law, where I select the content that will provide my students maximum impact from the least content. I use this along with spaced repetition systems to ensure that content is not easily forgotten, and will always ensure that an interactive quiz or game is involved to keep exam situations interesting.
