Oscar

I am a fully qualified Maths Teacher with a PGDE in Secondary Education, having graduated via the Teach First Leadership Programme. After two years’ experience of teaching full classes of often challenging students I am adept at teaching Maths to all levels. I have 10 years of tutoring experience and have an excellent record of helping students up to the GCSE level reach above and beyond their predicted targets. I graduated from the University of Birmingham with a 2.1 in History BA. At GCSE, I achieved 4 A*s, 5As and 1B including an A* in maths. Then at A level, I achieved an A at AS Maths and an A* in History.

Tutoring Experience

I am part of the system, knowing what the examiners want for each level inside out, having recently taken the exams myself and done well at them. This gives me a unique advantage over the competition, who may have more teaching experience, but can be out of touch with the intricate specifics, and the best modern methods. But, I do have two years tutoring experience, having begun with family friends when I was 16. Since then I have helped over a dozen students into their desired independent school, exceed at GCSE, or improve their abilities and help them get into higher sets. Furthermore, since beginning my tutoring, none of my tutees have failed in any exam or other objective, and although that is of course not totally down to my tuition, it is a statistic that I am proud of and hope to keep.

Testimonials:
My name is Sarah and I am a Company Director
I have known Oscar Removedsince November 2016, when he began tutoring my son in Maths on a weekly basis and he continues to do so.
Oscar is very polite and courteous and he is always ready to listen and adapt lessons to our needs. His teaching methods have proven to be highly successful, as in a short space of time, he has significantly contributed to helping my son achieve an in-depth knowledge in the subject of Maths.
My son thoroughly enjoys his lessons and has formed a strong friendship with Oscar. He looks forward to going every week where is made to feel very welcome.
I have no hesitation in recommending Oscar to tutor in the future.

Oscar tutored my daughter in Year 8 Maths during 2016.
I found Oscar to be a polite and courteous young man. He was always on time, if he was ever going to be late or couldn't make a particular date he informed me in plenty of time. My daughter flourished under Oscars tuition and she even moved up a maths set during her school year. I would definitely recommend him
My 13 year old daughter had this to say about Oscar;
"Oscar helped me a lot when he was tutoring me because he helped break down the question and gave me tips (when going through the question) . He also made sure everything was written down so I could go back to either remember it or it would help me out when working on a question."

Tutoring Approach

I believe in using different angles and varying views to assure that my tutees understand the topic and how to perform the given skill. When taught in large classes, teachers do not have the time or resources to make sure that every student understands every part of the course. This one on one teaching allows me to take more time, be patient and find new ways to help them understand, when the traditional methods haven't worked. Once they understand I start by giving easier questions before increasing the difficulty, of course depending upon the extent that the pupil has grasped the topic.I will then of course give homework in order to assess how well the student has understood the topic. If this is in preparation for an exam, then there is also a much greater emphasis on past papers, which I strongly believe in. They are the best way to make sure that the pupil knows what the examiner wants and how to do the questions.
