I have been tutoring full-time since 2010, following a complete change of direction from working as a freelance translator for several years.
I am a French native (UK resident since 1988) and graduated in Management and French Translation (University of London). I am affiliated professionally to the Tutors' Association (UK).
Tutoring is fulfilling, rewarding and I enjoy every minute of it. When I do not teach, I retain my passion for music and singing. I also enjoy reading, learning Japanese, hiking and going to the theatre. I am friendly, patient, determined and passionate.
My work as a private and school-based tutor has enabled me to appreciate individual styles of learning. My experience of teaching French has included valuable classroom experience, where I have been conducting weekly tutorial sessions with groups of GCSE and A level students in a secondary comprehensive school in Essex. As a private tutor, I have been predominantly preparing students for GCSE, A level examinations, IB, independent school entry examinations, 13+ Common Entrance Examination and scholarships - with excellent results. I also gained 5 years of experience as a French Examiner/Moderator for the OCR Exam Board.
I also have Adult Learning and Corporate experiences (one-on-one and small groups).
I value the experience of teaching French as a foreign language, encourage self-expression and instill confidence to enable students to develop as independent thinkers and confident learners. I have based my teaching on the premise that learning should be rigorous but always leavened with fun. It is my experience that successful teaching springs from listening to students, structuring lessons and being adaptable
