Paul is an exceptional tutor not only because of his outstanding teaching skills but also his deep sense of empathy and care. He taught my daughter GCSE Physics in a very short period of time - while she was revising for BMAT exam for Medicine. He is great in explaining theoretical concepts by applying it to real world examples and making the learning journey enjoyable and effective. I was fortunate enough to find Paul to tutor my son for GCSE Higher Tier Physics in a very crucial time approaching the exam. After the very first lesson, my DS came home so impressed with the teacher he looked brighter than ever before!

Paul exponentially improved my son’s confidence with physics by giving him an in-depth understanding of the subject in a very short period of time. I am so glad that we found Paul at such a crucial time in my daughter's education. Having been let down by poor school biology teaching, Paul has managed to get things back on track. He has been brilliant in helping my daughter to understand year 12 Biology topics that she didn't grasp last year and made a great head start in one of the most difficult year 13 topics. This has given my daughter so much more confidence in the subject at home and school and her new teachers have commented on how well she is doing this term. I had to consider employing a tutor for my daughter who was not doing well in Biology at 6th form. I searched for a while and then found Paul. Even through my daughter didn't continue in biology, Paul was an amazing tutor, my daughter enjoyed her lessons with him and found him encouraging and definitely someone that i would recommend to anyone. he made learning for her easy and made sure that she knew and understood the principles before she went home. He made her realise that she could do it and actually could continue even if the school said no! Outstanding Tutor and would recommend him to anyone who has a child who is discouraged and struggling.

Slightly too expensive and cheaper tutors can be found. Style of teaching is unique and didn't match my preferences, but may be useful for others. Lack of notes during the lesson was an issue and mind map technique is all well and good only if you are supervised to make it to make sure you have done it correctly. Limited reference to my spec. In my personal opinion the tutors who are the best are those who are teachers at a school not just professionals in the subject area as teachers understand exam technique and the content of the spec more thoroughly.

Thank you for your comments. I only ever had one tutorial session with your son, at the end of which, as homework, I asked him to attempt to produce a mindmap of the topic that we had covered (photosynthesis), and I promised that we would go through the next time that I saw him. I would have done this but I never saw him again. At the end of my tutorial with your son, you asked for a discount on the price that I had advertised on First Tutors, and which you had agreed in advance. I politely declined this on principle, since I think that it is unfair to make such a request after a tutorial has already been completed. When you first contacted me, even prior to booking me, you had tried to negotiate my price down also, but I had politely declined then too, and you nevertheless went ahead with the booking. You mention here a lack of reference to the specification, but I did refer to your son's (OCR) exam specification throughout the tutorial, ensuring that all aspects of it were covered. We also used a couple of past paper questions to test your son's understanding. I am very familiar with this specification. You mentioned a lack of note taking during the session, and that's correct, I prefer to focus on making sure that the student fully understands the topic, and I check and double check that this is the case at every stage throughout the session. Understanding is everything, and with a complicated topic such as photosynthesis I wouldn't want to charge for my time simply to have a student copy down notes that I have dictated to them during the tutorial without my being sure that they fully understand the topic first. Furthermore, notes should reflect the student's thought processes rather than my own, hence my having encouraged your son to produce a mindmap for his homework which we would have gone through together at the next session. I'm not against a student taking notes during a tutorial, but I do generally find that, for most students, it is more effective for me to spend most of any tutorial filling students' heads with eye-opening understanding and insights that they've never experienced before, and for them to make notes on what they've learned only afterwards. Student's notes such as (but not limited to) mindmaps, when they reflect the student's thought processes and genuine understanding, can enable extremely rapid subsequent revision of topics so summarised. They are particularly useful in enabling students to keep topics at their fingertips continuously for a minimal investment in time of a couple of minutes per topic each week. In this way a student can effectively perfect and collect topics, keeping them on the boil continuously, and thereby approach their exams with a declining workload in contrast to the increasing workload of their colleagues. I wish you and your son the best.

I recommend Paul to every student who is aiming for A grade in Biology as my son recently received A grade in his As level in August 2015. He is thorough in going through past exam papers and good with his technique. Eventhough it was a short while running up to the exam you had made my son achieved his target. Paul is an excellent tutor. He is highly efficient and has a style of teaching that ensures good understandly of all topics and builds confidence. He tutored my daughter in preparation for her Biology A level. He was able to turn topics that she feared into ones that she hoped she would be questioned on. I would have no reservation in recommending him. I would go as far as to say he has been transformational for my daughter. I just wish we had discovered him earlier.

I was struggling so much with biology having missed lessons and just never feeling I really understood what the teacher was going on about. Photosynthesis was something I had just accepted I would never understand with one session with Paul I knew it so well that I could recite the Calvin cycle and explain exactly what happens in each photosystem. The only way I can describe him is an utter miracle worker! If you are looking for someone to help you get your full potential then Paul is the one!

Paul has been tutoring my son william gcse science and william has said he feels more confident and enjoys his tutorials with Paul as he makes it easy for him. Paul is very pleasant, methodical and patient and teaches how to be more organised in your revision techniques and more efficient so william now knows what do do for the future and has acquired a set of skills. As a parent, I feel Paul really is good value for money, especially when I see my son revising independently and seeing improving test results from school. The last chemistry test he achieved 100%, which is a big boost to his confidence. Good find.

According to my daughter he made the lessons enjoyable, and always looked forward to them. My daughter is normally not very keen on tutoring and says school is enough, so i was very surpised that she found her 1 1/2 hour longs lessons interesting and enjoyable.
