As far back as I can remember, I have had a passion for understanding our mysterious world, and helping others to understand it, too. Following the completion of my degree in physics from Bristol University in 1985, I took a number of jobs, including teaching physics abroad. But I have spent the past 30 years as a TV producer, making science and history programmes. I relish the experience of discovering new insights and amazing an audience with them. Using the communication skills that I have gained from the TV industry and my knowledge of physics, I am now embarking on a career in teaching.
I taught physics A-level and science O-level (Cambridge board) for two years (1991-2) in Zimbabwe. Since then, I have kept abreast of the physics A-level syllabus and recently passed the standard necessary to gain a scholarship to study a PGCE from the Institute of Physics.
My approach is friendly and encouraging. I like to work by being as clear and as simple as possible when explaining something but to prompt my students to take the lead in solving problems, with hints as necessary. I'm a great believer in learning by doing.
