Hull Maths and Physics Tutor

I am passionate about Physics and teaching Physics. I also run my own recording company and am interested in acoustics and the physics of sound recording.
I swim to keep fit and enjoy long distance walks.

Tutoring Experience

I taught undergraduate physics while researching for a PhD in Semi Conductor Physics at Hull University.
I also worked for Marconi /GEC at their research centre in Wembley.
I then qualified as a Physics Teacher GCSE/A level Physics plus GCSE Chemistry, Biology and Maths. I have been teaching continuously since then in both state and independent schools. I have also started a recording studio , and have a special interest in acoustics and wave physics.
The last 4 schools I have worked at are: Saint Peter and Paul's Lincoln, Healing Academy, Queen Ethelburgas Harrogate, and St James Grimsby.
The most recent position has been teaching A level Physics online, from September 2020 to present.
My last year 13 A level Physics class of 5 students gained 3A*'s 1A and 1B.
They had targets 1A*, 2A's, 1B and 1C

Tutoring Approach

My approach to teaching online, has been tutorial in nature.
I assess prior knowledge, describe and explain the content to be covered using a mixture of ppt, text book, online resources, and online whiteboards.
I then give questions (past papers, Isaac Physics, bespoke for the group/individual), for the students to answer independently to test and develop understanding.
I then engage students individually in conversation about how they answered the questions using questioning to challenge, reinforce and guide their understanding.
I encourage students to talk about how their approach to answering the questions, what formula or conservation laws they are using, any other approaches they could have used.
I set homework once a week and mark it, feeding back to the students on their overall attainment and individual questions, and give students a 'working at grade' from A* to E and targeted work for progression.
