I enjoy keeping fit, going to the gym regularly and running. I have run a number of 10k and half marathons. I enjoy reading, gardening and any Geographical documentaries.
I have been tutoring for almost three years now, predominantly on line. I haves worked full time teaching Geography to Year 7 through to Year 11 students, and have been teaching Geography for the past 8 years. As well as teaching GCSE students. I am also an examiner for GCSE, which I found extremely beneficial. I am also Deputy SENCo alongside my teaching role, which involves working with students on a one to one basis, to enable them to access the GCSE curriculum. I currently teach the AQA specification, but have experience of other specifications and can access resources relevant to the course. I have previously worked for 7 years as a Teaching Assistant, and have completed training in Autism, Dyslexia, ADHD and been involved in planning EHCP's and student profiles for students. I have worked with a wide range of students from challenging behavior, school refuser's and student's with anxiety, as well as ADHD and Autism.
I like to think my past experience working with students on a one to one basis with certain needs has really helped shape the way I teach. I am aware that "no all one size fits all" and that every student may have a different way to learn and a different pace. I have also studied A level Psychology which has given me a greater insight into how we learn, and the various routes of helping students encode information to help memory retrieval. My new role is also drawing on my previous knowledge and experience to help students access and understand the topic I am teaching. I have found some students learn better with images, others with listening, and some with repetition. It is a case of finding what works for each student.
