I am a passionate teacher with over 26 years experience including 7 as Head of Department. I have a proven track record and pride myself in enabling students to reach their potential. School observations including Ofsted have judged my lessons to be outstanding, where students make better than expected progress! Tutoring Experience
I have extensive experience at teaching key stage 3,4 and AS and A Level. My Maths Degree was attained at University College London where I specialised in Pure Mathematics. I have complete knowledge of the New Curriculum and Level structure. My teaching methods support these changes so that students are able to understand the different style of questioning.
Tutoring Approach
I have a calming and encouraging approach to teaching and believe a student will best learn when they feel at ease. Initially I will establish the strengths and weaknesses of the student and then take a scaffolding approach to learning which is building on the prior knowledge of the student. It is imperative the students master the fundamentals so that progress can be made from a secure knowledge base. When students begin to overcome their difficulties, their confidence grows and with that, the belief they can achieve! Students approaching exams should target past paper questions and focus on exam technique. I am always fully prepared for my lessons and consider what resources may be required to support the learning of the student. At the end of the lesson, I am always happy to give any feedback to parents.
Due to the coronavirus I am now tutoring all my students on-line. I am using an application which has been developed by tutors and utilises an iPad and pencil. The facility allows simultaneous interaction with the student and with an audio and video link using Skype, messenger or equivalent provides a unique tutoring experience. Work can be recorded and saved on-line. I offer a free on-line consultation which will include setting up the application and the opportunity for me to introduce myself and explain the tutoring process.
