Maths and English Tutoring in Walsall

I’m a fully qualified and experienced Primary School Teacher with over 25 years strong classroom experience in teaching all year groups from Year 1 – Year 6. I possess a BA(QTS) in Education with Biology from the University of Warwick and am a Specialist Maths Teacher (fully DBS enhanced cleared).
I teach Maths, English and specialise in SATs preparation (Yr2 & Yr6), and 11+ entrance exams with excellent results! I teach all abilities and I do both online and, face to face teaching for which I provide all resources. Each lesson is personalised and tailored to the needs of the individual child. I am passionate about tutoring students and helping them to gain confidence, flourish and achieve the success that they deserve.

Tutoring Experience

I have indepth experience of teaching the National Curriculum Maths and English to Key Stage 1 and 2 from Years 1 to 6 in primary schools. I am currently a Year 6 Primary School Teacher and Senior Leader of Learning.
I have also got ample experience of private tuition, teaching children on a one to one basis and small groups. I teach children from a range of abilities including the high achieving students who need challenging and pushing, to children with specific educational needs. I also have experience teaching Early Years and I am fully trained to teach basic skills including phonics. I have experience in working with students whose first language may not be English and I am able to understand and speak fluent Hindi and Punjabi.

Tutoring Approach

I take a very personalised approach to my tutoring, and try to provide an informal but stimulating environment. I have a fantastic range of teaching materials to hand, and my students enjoy their lessons. I am committed to the provision of high quality education, ongoing support and stimulation, and to enhancing the achievements of all children. My prime goal is for my students to make progress as quickly as possible! Creating a comfortable and relaxed environment builds and encourages open communication, which in turn helps students feel more confident and motivated to learn. Building confidence and having a good rapport with the student, I feel is just as important in order to achieve the best from them.
In the first lessons I always assess each student in the subjects they will be learning. By doing this I am able to tailor my approach to the individual needs and learning style of each student, and gaps in learning. From this, each child will then have their own individual - adaptable - learning programme.
If preparing for the 11+ exams, I will assess each area of Reading: retrieval, inference, vocabulary, compare, prediction and summary, Mathematics: number & place value, fractions (inc. decimals and percentages), ratio & proportion, algebra, geometry, measures and statistics. Verbal and non-verbal reasoning skills will also be assessed so that lessons are challenging as well as engaging; the ultimate aim being for them to stretch each student to their maximum capabilities so they can reach their full potential. Each skill taught will be continually assessed and teaching adapted accordingly. I provide plenty of opportunities to practice and build their confidence in these areas. Giving immediate feedback and celebrating their progress helps to maintain motivation and a positive attitude towards learning. Specific to 11+ preparation, throughout the year, I will prepare your child for the exam, covering all of the necessary areas of learning (some of which they will not have covered in school). Whatever the final outcome, your child will have received a positive learning experience, and will be well equipped to begin their Secondary School experience with confidence.
Guidance and support is always offered to students who may need help with any topics they are covering at school or any homework received. I provide parents with regular, clear and timely information on how well their child is progressing, and how well their child is doing in relation to their learning.
Online lessons, Individual & Group Lessons available. I am situated in Walsall and my lessons are usually an hour long. I also offer Maths and English BOOSTER LESSONS – for those concerned that the pace of the new curriculum or the gap that Covid may have left. These sessions provide are aimed at narrowing any gap that the above mentioned may have caused. I break down complex concepts into smaller, more manageable parts. This helps students grasp difficult concepts more easily and avoid feeling overwhelmed. I use visual aids and real-world examples make abstract concepts more tangible and memorable.
