Rachel

I am a biologist with over eight years research experience, a PhD in molecular Biology from the University of Cambridge and a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Bath. My passion for learning about biology has given me in-depth subject knowledge and experience explaining complex scientific topics to people of all ages and backgrounds.

I offer online and in person tutoring with a flexible schedule. I am friendly and patient, and can teach various levels of Biology from secondary to university level. Just let me know what you would like to learn!

Tutoring Experience

During my research career, I have explained science in schools, at science festivals, on the radio and at scientific conferences. I have also mentored master's and undergraduate students, helping them with problems and training them in laboratory techniques. I have extensive experience in scientific writing, and can guide students through the challenges of academic research. Additionally, I have experience in teaching techniques from my job as a ski instructor in Japan!

Tutoring Approach

My teaching is learner focused, centering around the goals and objectives of the student. I also understand that each person learns differently and use a variety of approaches to help the information stick! I aim to encourage a passion for Biology, introducing real-world applications or exciting and relevant scientific discoveries. I believe that no topic is too difficult, it just needs a jargon free explanation.
