For one student, at GCSE level , the rate for online lessons is 40.0 per hour. I have been a teacher of English for over 20 years, in independent schools and colleges. I have also contributed to English language text books currently in use in South Africa.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught groups of young teachers who have needed a refresher course, at Stellenbosch University, Languages Unit, South Africa. As well as writing and contributing to educational textbooks which are in use in South Africa, I have taught A level English literature, AS level and O level, for Cambridge International Examinations, and successfully helped students prepare for O and A/AS level examinations. Since lockdown I have supported students mainly at GCSE level but also at A level. Lessons online have been very satisfactory and time-saving.
I am willing to travel short distances, if necessary, but I encourage parents/guardians to bring their learner to my home which is in a safe (and attractive) environment. Parents may sit in on lessons, but often use that hour to go shopping (nearby). A level students usually prefer online lessons: we cover a lot more this way

Tutoring Approach

I have had very pleasing success with learners who need help when facing examinations of any kind, GCSE, assessments in school, and entrance examinations. I have marked examination papers for a leading examination board, so I have detailed knowledge of what is required, and of how to approach an examination. Learners find me friendly and warm, according to parents. Parents/guardians have consistently agreed that I have helped the learner's confidence in themselves grow hugely.
