Qualified and experienced teacher of English, holding a first class degree from UCL; a PGCE with QTS, and an up-to-date DBS. I also have experience of examining English Literature at GCSE. Offering online English tutoring at GCSE, A-Level and KS3.
Two references from parents of recent tutees:
Rachel is a fantastic tutor who immediately formed a wonderful rapport with my daughter. Individual lessons are well planned and informative in themselves - but it is the way Rachel plans ahead which stands out. Whilst lessons may cover an individual topic, everything is designed towards an end goal; it is fantastic to see my daughters progress as things are tied together. Rachel is about to start with daughter number 2!

We were so lucky to find Rachel. She has tutored my daughter for two years prior to her GCSE’s in both English and English Literature. I can confidently say that she has raised the achievement of my daughter who was very much struggling with both these subjects. She also helped greatly with her confidence. Rachel is very patient and always shows great interest in her pupils. She identified that my daughter may be dyslexic and since her diagnosis Rachel has gone above and beyond to identify what help can be put in place for my daughter. Her support has been invaluable. I cannot recommend Rachel enough and would add that my daughter really enjoyed every lesson she had with Rachel!

I have a first class English degree from University College London, and am a qualified teacher, holding a PGCE with QTS (as well as an up-to-date DBS). I worked in the independent schools’ sector for several years, teaching English at KS3, 4 and 5. I am, however, currently focusing on tutoring and marking public examinations, combining these with looking after my young sons. When I have any free time, I love to read 19th Century fiction (and watch any good quality adaptations!)

I offer online tutoring in English Literature across the entire age range (up to and including A Level), and in English Language at KS3 and GCSE Level.
In addition to my experience teaching in independent secondary schools, and several years of private tutoring, I have also spent time carrying out literacy interventions in a primary school, and have a range of SEN experience across both age groups. I have a broad range of tutoring experience, having taught pupils one-to-one at KS2, 3, 4 and 5. I have prepared pupils for the 11 plus, as well as for GCSEs and A Levels. I am also an examiner for AQA, marking GCSE English Literature papers.
Typically, tutoring sessions are 1 hour long, but I am open to discussing other options. Objectives and focus of sessions are decided in conversation with students and their parents; clear communication about aims and progress is a key feature of how I work. I am driven to help pupils reach their objectives, whether that be developing specific skills preparing for exams; becoming familiar with texts and able to write about them in a sophisticated manner, or, ultimately, to develop an enduring love for English Literature and Language.
