Rachel is an Oxford-educated Super Tutor. A gifted linguist and translator, she holds a BA and a MA in modern & medieval languages from Oxford University, and is fluent in three languages.
Whilst at Oxford, Rachel became interested in the practical applications of neuroscience, psychology and biology on optimal performance, which informed her neurocognitive approach to tuition and performance coaching.
An elite, freelance tutor for more than a decade, Rachel brings considerable experience to bear in all the standard tuition markets: 7+, 11+, 13+/scholarships, GCSE, A-level, home-schooling, university top-up tuition, and casual adult learner.
Rachel provides 360 degree preparation for both the 7+ and 11+ entrance exams, tutoring English, maths, verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, interview preparation, as well as leading intensive half term/holiday tuition courses.
Since 2013, 100% of Rachel’s clients received a place (many were also awarded academic scholarships,) at their ‘first choice school’ from the following list: St Paul’s Girls’ & Boys’ Schools, Eton College, Highgate, UCS, City of London Girls’ & Boys’ Schools, Francis Holland, Godolphin & Latymer, Westminster, Cheltenham Ladies’ College, and St Mary’s Ascot.
Rachel also specialises in the preparation of candidates for Oxbridge entrance, in which highly competitive field she has achieved a 98% success rate, over the past decade, across a range of academic disciplines.
Rachel’s approach to tuition is both nuerocognitive and holistic: she believes that a successful tuition strategy necessarily honours and develops the individuality of the tutee.
Rachel’s approach to tuition adds value to her clients in the following ways: In the short term, the tutee learns about the topic at hand, and works towards the attainment of subject-specific goals. In the long term, the tutee learns to optimise how they learn - giving rise to a significant psychological advantage over their peer group. This gap only continues to grow with time, compounding the academic advantage of Rachel’s tutees, and fostering their sense of self-belief.
All sessions are tailor-made to the tutee, and are designed to be creative, collaborative, and most importantly, enjoyable experiences! The input of the whole ‘tutor team’ (parent-child-tutor) is encouraged.
CLIENT TESTIMONIALS
Notwithstanding her industry-renowned track record, Rachel still considers the best testament of her ability, to be the reviews of her long-standing clients - a small sample of whose testimonials, is available below:
•‘Micaiah was so excited after the assessment! He said it felt like less than an hour and that you were “so nice, and know a million different ways to teach if he doesn’t understand”.’ (R. Atkins speaking about her 14 year old son’s experience of his first English GCSE session with me, 2022).
•’Rachel is undoubtedly an outstanding tutor. She is reliable, completely committed to her work and understands how to bring out the best in her students. She not only has an encyclopaedic knowledge but also understands how to teach skills and to instil confidence in her students. I would highly recommend her as a tutor.’ (H. Samuels speaking about my successful preparation of her daughter, for the interviews and entrance examinations of Cambridge University, 2015,).
•‘To the Super Tutor, who got super results! Thank you! We would not have gotten through the last few years without your guidance and support! Thank you for ‘calming’ us down and providing much needed guidance and counsel when we needed it most.’ (The Speedy Family, writing to me after their son’s successful sweep of 11+ offers to many of the top London day schools, 2022,).
•‘Dear Rachel, Thank you for everything you did for me during the 11+. You managed to get me offers for six schools, 3 of them my top choices, which was five more than I was expecting. You were amazing in every subject that you taught, and I really appreciated your patience and expertise.’ (Thomas, age 10, writing to tell me about his stellar 11+ results, 2022,).
•‘Hi Rachel, Just wanted to thank you for helping me with my essay, I used the same structure for my introduction in another assignment and the professor was really impressed with it!’ (Corinne, undergraduate, writing to tell me that she was continuing to reap the benefits of our sessions on ‘how to write an essay,’ 2021,).
•‘I know you have many tutees that come and go, but I want you to know I have never met nor will ever meet someone quite like you… I found you at such a critical point in my development from adolescence into adulthood and I think of you often, and, at the risk of sounding dramatic, you kinda saved me. You opened my mind, pushed me to be better, and taught me how to learn…You were there for me in a time where I didn’t know how to be there for myself - and for that, I can’t thank you enough.’ (Sienna, an undergraduate that I tutored in English, in an email to me, 2017,).
•‘I engaged Rachel in September 2016 to help my son with his Spanish A-level exam, and also his preparation for Cambridge University’s entrance exams and interviews; my son is now at Cambridge! Her expertise and wisdom were invaluable. Rachel is thorough, systematic and motivational in all aspects of her work. The vast majority of Rachel’s tuition was done via Skype. It worked extremely well. I have recommended Rachel to many of my friends and have no hesitation in continuing to do so. I am a teacher myself and in all honesty, I have never met such a committed, informed and inspirational person.’ (S. Marshall, speaking about my successful preparation of her son for Spanish A-Level, and then the entrance exams and interviews of Cambridge University, 2017,).
