I am keen and motivated to assist pupil's achieve and develop their personal and academic success. My love for education continues to expand through my practice, creating a positive and welcoming learning environment for all.

Tutoring Experience

I have gained lots of experience in working with primary aged children at different schools across England over time. Particularly in my gap year, I acquired a great deal of experience working with all the main stages and have become acquainted with many skills, knowledge and abilities that I have been able to apply to my current role as a Learning Support Assistant at Broad Heath Primary School in Coventry. I have worked with years 6, 5, 4 and now Year 2 for the second year of my job in this role. In addition, I have had the opportunity to work with Year 2 and Year 3 at Parkgate Primary School and Reception and Year 5 at Wheelwright Lane Primary School.

These roles included monitoring children at breaktimes and lunchtimes while working for one year as a lunchtime supervisor at Parkgate Primary School for Reception, years 1, 2, 3 and 5, combined with studying part time. I was able to improve my skills and knowledge of the subject in working with various age groups, increasing an understanding of the education system but also giving me an inspiring yet all-inclusive experience supporting my development and progression. Working with children from different age groups has given me the opportunity to work with a variety of adults, who have shared their professional knowledge, experience and expertise. In doing so, this has provided a different perspective on early childhood education, offering me the chance to study my interests and continue learning. My enjoyment in the range of subjects and age groups taught has assisted me to discover my strengths, work as a team, manage my time and perform proactively. In addition, I carried out observations in schools on a number of topics related to the National Curriculum to support me in this.

Alongside working full time, I have chosen to continue with my studies, studying towards an Education Studies (Primary) degree with The Open University, accompanying my long-term ambitions in teaching. The experience of studying six years part time while working as a full time employee for four years has given me the skills to better time management and effective communication. Gaining and reflecting on feedback provided from my tutors and work peers has facilitated improvement in my academic studies and professional role.

My completion of a Level 2 course in Specialised Support for Teachers and Learning in Schools has required a great deal of group work at meetings and sessions. Overall, the course gave me an understanding of life in primary schools and learning environments, with awareness of children's behavioural, emotional and social development needs and policies and guidelines. It established a clear consideration of education, welfare and protection. Furthermore, I recently gained experience of running an after-school reading tutoring club for Year 6 children, in preparation for SATs. My love and fascination for reading, education and learning generally has encouraged me to contribute to the school's wider life, inspiring my imagination and allowing me to explore new experiences. To develop my learning in regard to policy and practice for increasing performance, I have participated in relevant safeguarding, behaviour, health and safety and first aid training.

During work placements and my LSA role, working collaboratively, communicating with teachers, parents and relevant adult members on a day by day basis has significantly contributed to this. I have worked with children of individual needs, delivering teaching and interventions of differentiated learning tasks in groups or taking on a 1:1 role. In doing so, I viewed and recognised predominant learning styles, being able to adapt to best suit each pupil’s specific learning needs. This experience throughout my practice thus has increased my involvement of working with all children, engaging in a variety of tasks and activities to best accommodate learning and improve the quality of learning, with work structured in accordance with curriculum standards.

Tutoring Approach

I am aware of the importance of working in collaboration with others and building positive, professional relationships. This leads to identifying good practice, beneficial for children's learning and behaviour. Assisting children and young people to develop countless skills, abilities and knowledge preparing them for adult life is at the heart of my understanding of why teaching is necessary. I am confident that my caring nature increases motivation, positivity and progression. It makes me proud to see progression and success, and I feel fulfilled to be a positive role model for children and young people to achieve their full potential. I consider education a means to learning and succeeding, which is what I would like each pupil to do, achieving their best and demonstrating a rightful desire to prosper. In support and assistance for development, it is central that specific needs of all individuals are met. I would like to teach for the purpose of sharing my knowledge, experiences and personal attributes with others, embracing my desire of learning. I look forward to train as a teacher in primary schools to reach full job satisfaction, influence pupils and broaden my experience to progress further. I hope to continue this over a number of generations in such a rewarding career.
It is honourable to see each pupil’s confidence grow, as they become more resilient and form positive relationships with their peers. It is essential for me to build a rapport with children and young people to foster a stimulating learning environment and reinforce motivation. Using my enthusiasm, I create a cooperative and enticing classroom environment where the lessons are engaging and learning experiences can be shared to promote a love of learning.
