I graduated from Goldsmiths with a degree in English. I believe that every student has the potential to achieve great grades and my ability to communicate and engage well with the students i teach ensures great success for the students. I have a can do attitude, i am trustworthy, reliable, hardworking and i hold a current DBS. I have a passion for my subject because of the creative scope it offers and that passion shows in the way i teach. I am well prepared and organised; and that skill helps me when it comes to tutoring students. I have a great success rate as i thoroughly research the exam board and i am hands on with supporting the students with their coursework.
I have been an English tutor for the last 3 years. I do both home tutoring and i work in tuition centres. I have taught big groups of students, which has made me familiar with different exam boards and what each exam board expects from the students. I have taught both primary, secondary and A level students.
I have been tutoring for more than three years; consequently I have developed a portfolio of lesson plans and refined my communication skills. My main aim is to ensure that the students are engaging well with the text and the work I set. I teach them how to approach texts so they can use key skills to ensure they receive maximum marks. I regular practice exam papers with my students as well as ensuring I cover the subject content, such as poetry, core books and creative writing. Giving constructive support in various ways such as creating a advice tip list makes revision easier for the students. My focus lies in making the students understand the text and helping them develop a coherent structure and argument in their writing. With a subject like English where there is no right answer it is crucial that students think critically so they can expand on their answers, so I make my lessons interesting, challenging and relevant to the students experiences by using examples and planning work that suits the students as well as adhering to the curriculum. I maintain a positive attitude so I can motivate my students, and I have patience with them as I understand the subject is broad and thinking can take time depending on the students’ ability.
