Having spent a year of my university degree tutoring a wide range of students of all abilities, closely followed by a year spent working for a global pharmaceuticals company, my passion for the sciences (and sharing them!) has never been greater.
I have experienced firsthand the impact that a good understanding of biology, chemistry, maths and English can bring, both to improve our world and also in the personal sense of wonder that knowledge of the world around us can bring. I would be delighted to get the opportunity to share this with other students.
Despite my scientific background, I also have a great passion for teaching English literature and language, and am an avid creative and poetry writer, having won a national award for poetry. I have supported many students over the past few years in developing their writing skills and achieving improved grades in public examinations.
Aside from academic interests, I really enjoy cooking, wild swimming and (unsurprisingly) reading. :)
My experience includes:
My first lesson is usually spent simply listening to the student to understand what it is they would like to get out of the tutoring and to understand their personal preferences in teaching styles. My approach to tutoring is very holistic, and I find that each student responds to a different method of tutoring. Whether it be understanding of concepts or answering specific exam questions that the student finds difficult, I tailor each of my lessons to that individual to ensure that each student achieves the very best that they can.
I try to keep my lessons as informal and engaging as possible, as I find that students who are bored don't tend to want to try and learn! I love to enthuse students to encourage them to really take an interest in the subject matter, as I find that this underlying interest really helps to contribute to improved grades and a more developed knowledge of the subject matter.
