I am a private tutor with 20 years experience tutoring Maths, English and French. I tutor Maths, English and French for 11+, 13+ and GCSE, English and French up to A Level. I worked in North London, always had success with entrance exams and have had children accepted at: Aylesbury Grammar School, Aylsebury High School, Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School, Wycombe Abbey School, Westminster, Highgate, City of London Boys and Girls, St. Paul's Boys and Girls, Haberdashers', Channing, South Hampstead High, St. Edward's Oxford, Millfield School, etc. I have experience of working with children of all abilities and pride myself on tailoring my programme to each child's individual needs. I have particular experience and interest in working with children with a wide range of learning challenges such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, Aspergers syndrome, to name but a few. Through my individual approach to each student and my focus on building confidence, I have always had excellent success with my students. This year I have received comments from students such as 'For the first time in my life, I can sit down to a Maths exam without being terrified.' This, to me, is success.
Over the past 2 decades, I have worked a great deal with students who have been going through a period of home schooling for a number of reasons. The focus for these students is always to maintain their school work, build confidence, fill in any gaps in their learning and, most importantly, move towards a return to the school environment.
I have experience also of teaching English as a Second Language and fully understand the challenges this presents, particularly for the adult learner, trying to fit in studying around a full-time job and life!
Everything is about the individual. The benefit of one-to-one tuition is that every lesson can be tailored to the individual student's needs in that moment. I always have a plan of what we might cover in a session but will be adaptable and guided by any specific challenges the student has encountered since our last meeting. Since I always build a strong rapport with students, they are able to be honest with me about their academic and psychological challenges - particularly around exam times.
