In a recent BBC Radio 4 podcast, philosopher Mary Warnock argued that education provides children with a sense of enlightenment and happiness, which is a human right. I believe that this is particularly true of History. Learning from the past and building an understanding of other cultures are only some of the ways that studying History can enlighten the minds of students. This is also true of education as a whole, which is why I strive to teach students of all abilities and backgrounds.
I am passionate about student learning and progress at all levels and through my teaching career, I have gained detailed knowledge on what is required to ensure that students reach their full potential across various examination boards at GCSE and A-Level.
I am a committed and efficient teacher who would work hard to meet your tuition needs, whether it is at primary or college level.
I have been working as a qualified teacher of Humanities for 10 years in a local state school. I am now Head of Department, as well as Head of the Humanities Faculty and have achieved outstanding results for my department for the past 5 years. My main subject is History, but I also teach Geography and Religious Studies. I also taught English as a Foreign Language in Japan for two years after University. Before undertaking my PGCE, I was a cover supervisor at an all girls’ school. This experience was critical in giving me cross-curricular experience, particularly in Mathematics and English up to A-Level.
I have experience in tutoring across various ages and subjects. Finally, I have extensive experience working with students with various special educational needs and those for whom English is an Additional Language.
My approach to tutoring always centres around the student and their needs. Through my experience as a teacher, I am flexible and adaptable in meeting these needs, whether they are special educational needs or simply the way that a student enjoys learning.
Tutoring should be fun as well as rigorous, with structured lesson plans and mini assessments so that I can monitor progress and how we can move forward.
