Hello, my name is Rema Behnam and I am currently a 3rd year medical student studying at the University of Buckingham. I enjoy studying biology and medicine because it’s the highest pursuit for someone who loves human engagement and problem solving. It will allow me to link theoretical knowledge of the body to its practical implications. I studied a range of sciences at A level (Biology, Chemistry and Psychology) and received A*AA and currently working hard to achieve great grades in my degree.
When I was in high school I was a biology prefect which meant I had to liaise with and encourage students to share my motivation for the captivating subject. This is illustrated through mentoring a student with her science GCSEs and cultivating a trusting rapport, to allow her to exceed in her studies. It was rewarding to see her improvement, not only in her academic progress but also in her confidence in me.
My approach revolves around the idea that “there are no silly questions’. One of the worst things is when a teacher makes you feel small for not knowing certain aspects or a topic. Therefore my approach is to start with the basics and utilise mistakes and questions to aid learning.
Equally, I have always believed doing practice questions are a great way to familiarise yourself with what can be asked from you and the structure that you should respond with. Especially with GCSE and A-levels the syllabus always repeats questions through the years.
Finally repetition is key. I will try and implement what we previously learnt into our next session to keep it fresh in your mind.
