Richard

Richard teaches at one of the top independent sixth form colleges in London. He has over 8 years experience teaching maths to students from year 7 to year 13 to undergraduates, more recently focussing on GCSE and A level mathematics. His students have gone on to study at Oxford University, Imperial College London, Bristol University, London School of Economics and Warwick University among others.

Richard has vast experience teaching boys and girls from the state and independent sector, as well as having taught over 1000 hours online. Alongside teaching, he also works as an examiner for Edexcel marking A level papers, which gives him a detailed insight as to how exam questions and mark schemes are structured, positioning Richard excellently to help his students achieve outstanding grades.

Tutoring Approach

Teaching online shouldn't be any different to teaching in person. My lessons are student led: after explaining the underlying concepts in a new topic, and providing one or two examples, students spend time telling me how they would answer questions line by line.

If students solve problems correctly, we move onto the next topic. But crucially, if their solution is not correct, it is immediately clear what the student does and does not understand. This way, any misconceptions about a topic can be quickly addressed.

The more time a student is active and doing maths, as opposed to being passive and being lectured about maths, the more the student learns.
