I have a BSc(hons) degree and a PGCE qualification. I have taught in a good secondary school for 15 years, from KS2 to KS5. My background prior to this was as a Civil and Gas Engineer, designing roads and working on construction sites. I also worked as a consulting engineer for the safe transmission of oil and gas products.
I have taught in a good secondary school for 15 years,(Prince Henry's grammar) before retiring in 2014. Teaching students with a range of abilities and different learning styles has been my everyday task. I have tutored about 200 students over the last 10 years, from SATs, GCSE, AS, A level and IB. The majority of my tutees have exceeded their expectations in terms of grades, gaining confidence and seeing maths as part of the big picture. Recent successes include moving a one student from a D grade to gaining an A grade and another from an E grade to a B grade, both at GCSE. I still teach part of the year in schools, but only where I think I can be of help.
I expect tutees to want help and support. They should be willing to undertake addition work, to ask questions and not be afraid to get things wrong. I want parents to be involved and always brief them on progress of their son or daughter.
