I am 24 years old and I am a trainee secondary school Mathematics teacher commencing in 2025. I obtained a 1st class degree in Economics and Social Science from the University of Manchester in July 2022.
I believe mathematical skills are valuable life skills which can be applied throughout everyone’s professional and personal lives. It creates an understanding of problem solving, communication and methodical thinking and can also lead to a passion for STEM and academics. I am training to be a GCSE/ A Level mathematics teacher in 2025, and have prior experience as a teaching assistant, carrying out maths intervention for KS1 and 2.
Despite having dyslexia and ADHD, I have managed to achieve the very best of my ability within mathematics. I’d love to have the opportunity to help other students now that I have graduated, and experienced various career paths after graduation. I have adapted methods to overcome exam stress, to make education less daunting.
I am excited to tutor during my free time, to help students to achieve the best of their ability.
I have a motivational attitude and enjoy bringing a bright and fun energy to mathematics. I will push students to the best of their abilities, and support them throughout the process.
I currently work as a consultant within a sustainability company, and I am returning to education as a secondary school mathematics teacher in Summer 2025.
In 2023, I worked as a teaching assistant in a primary school, specialising in mathematics intervention. I provided students with an interactive and group based maths class, helping to build a basis for understanding mathematics.
I have also tutored GCSEs student with Mathematics and Chemistry, allowing her to achieve a B, which was higher than her predicted grade.
I worked as a tutor in my secondary school whilst learning A Level maths, and also helped tutor an A Level student during university.
I have volunteered abroad, in 2019, teaching a school how to play instruments such as the ukulele- which I thoroughly enjoyed. I was able to work with different kinds of students, and adapted my approach to help them learn.
I tutored another student (predicted a D) to achieve a C, in History and this was done over Skype.
Students enjoyed tutoring were extremely pleased with the outcome of our hard work and dedication.
I believe little steps is the best way to improve. For Mathematics, the key is progress over perfection. By learning from mistakes, and trying again, students understand mathematical concepts more, and can being to build their own confidence within the subject.
I also create engaging and varied lesson plans, ranging from practice paper questions to writing out steps for specific types of methods, as well as mathematic games to consolidate learning.
Learning is different for everyone, and this is something I consider strongly when teaching. Some students may benefit from thinking of examples and case studies, whereas others are more practical and prefer focusing on calculations. This is something I will tailor depending on who I am tutoring.
I am approachable and kind, I will not pressurise students to find a solution, as I think this is counterproductive. It is more useful to take things step by step, and not to cause anxiety in the process. Anxiety and stress adds an extra layer of difficulty to exams and this is something that I believe can and should be avoided.
I will happily answer questions and will also challenge students.#/k#
