I have amassed over twelve years' extensive experience as a Private Tutor for a variety of students and skill sets, after graduating from Oxford University with a 2:1 Honours MBiochem degree in Molecular & Cellular Biochemistry.
Particular focus areas include GCSE & iGCSE Triple Sciences (Biology/Chemistry/Physics), GCSE Combined Science (Core & Additional), AS/A Level Biology & Chemistry, and IB SL/HL Biology & Chemistry.
Under my tuition, one of my long-term iGCSE students recently achieved triple 9 grades in his Biology, Chemistry and Physics results; while his older sister received an A* in both her Biology & Chemistry A Levels following our work together, and is now studying Medicine at Cambridge. An iGCSE Biology mature student also progressed from zero prior experience to an A* grade in just one year; and another international student, new to the UK system in Year 11, went from a U grade in her mocks to an A in her final Biology GCSE, after a week's intensive study together over the Easter holidays.
I also worked for over two years as the resident Science/Chemistry teacher at Rhodes Farm School, an independent hospital school, in North London. Here I taught students at KS3, GCSE and A Level; whilst also communicating with the pupils, their families, and their home schools to ensure they kept up with their studies, and prepared for eventual reintegration into mainstream education.
My work in the creative industry means that I am an open, engaging, animated, and communicative teacher. I encourage my students to take an active role in their own learning, making their own notes and feeling free to ask questions as we work. I avoid an approach of simply reciting and copying - always challenging students with guided questions and visualisations of the problem at hand.
Most of all - I try to make my lessons fun and enjoyable! Science is a fascinating, vital topic; and if I feel I have instilled a sense of this in my students, then the lesson has been a success. And when this happens, exam success tends to follow!
