My time away from teaching is mostly spent with my wife and three young children. I also like football and have a season ticket through which I attend many games. I also place great importance on being physically active; I train at the gym each morning before work and also train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu three times per week. I also enjoy running. Other pastimes include reading and film.
I have been a teacher of English for 20 years and have extensive experience working in a variety of contexts. I currently work as head of English and Senior teacher on the leadership team of a highly successful school and have previously held similar positions as Assistant Head teacher, Head of English and Advanced Skills teacher in 3 previous schools. I also work as an examiner for AQA and mark English Language GCSE. Over the years I have helped schools secure their best ever results from A*-C at GCSE (now 1-9) and understand perfectly how to support students in making improvements from all starting points. I currently work in Trafford and therefore understand the demands that selective education places on students. I have experience tutoring with students connected to family, friends and colleagues for over a decade, with consistently outstanding results.
English is a dynamic and exciting subject that I find a privilege to teach. I have absolute certainty in its ability as a subject to improve the lives of all young people; in either helping them pass exams or fundamentally understand the world around them more critically. My approach to tutoring work uses this belief in how I work to use the interests of students to support their learning. Tutoring sessions should be as enjoyable as they are informative. Working 1 to 1 provides the opportunity to facilitate rapid improvements through what I initially consider guided learning that increasingly supports the students in becoming more interactive and independent readers over time. I can also try and cater for all budgets.
