I am a friendly, outgoing married man who has taught for over twenty seven years in Secondary schools and FE colleges across Yorkshire. I try always to encourage student and pupil alike into greater understanding and learning, believing in a student centred approach to learning. I am a fully trained Methodist Local Preacher in the Methodist Church UK [since 2004] and a published poet and author. I particularly love teaching those who are learning English as a second [or 6th] language and seek to further this experience where possible.

I live in S2, Sheffield and have spaces in the week for new students of any age. I charge one flat rate of £20.

I choose not to tutor at weekends.

100% pass rate at C or 4 and above, in GCSE & A Levels, since 2014.

Tutoring Experience

100% success rate at GCSE and A Level English since 2014 in all home tutored students. (level 4 or C grade)

Recent results: A Level student grade A for English Lit A Level (when predicted a C grade). Awaiting GCSE results this August.

My teaching experience covers all ages and abilities from Year 7 to mature students from other countries who wanted to learn the English language. I have taught through Key Stage three, four [GCSE] and at A Level at both language and literature.

I am semi retired and In recent years, I have taught the AQA , Edexcel, OCT and Cambridge Board papers for GCSE and IGCE and have taught Functional Skills to Level 2 should that need arise. I can do either or both; Language and Lit.

I have tutored a severely dyslexic student to a successful 2:2 degree in Theology and Religious Studies, have personal experience of Mears Earhlamm Syndrome and Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and ADHD when teaching. Anything can be overcome! One of my latest adult students achieved a pass in her Education course to become a Primary School teacher and has now (June 2023) just passed her PGCE with a start in September as a newly qualified teacher.

A recent A Level student passed with an A using weekly online sessions once a week through MS Teams, as we were nearly 300 miles away from each other.

I can and do, regularly increase grades by 2 full grades within 6 weeks of tuition by one simple method that all can learn!

Tutoring Approach

I offer a mature, calm and friendly approach, believing in the student being at the centre of their learning experience.

Resources are available to aid in this process. Exam results have been most rewarding in the past and will be in the future.

One student of mine recently tutored an A level student in three months to complete her studies and get a place at Lincoln University. Happy bunny that day!

My latest student jumped from mid 40s degree level grades to mid 60s inside three months and through online tuition because of Covid19 lockdown. She then passed her degree in 2021.

NB. An adult should also be there at all times, when the student is aged 18 or below, to fully safeguard all concerned even though it is to be online for the foreseeable future, due in part to my declining health and oncoming surgery for my wife.

Payment is usually via PayPal directly after each session. I only do PayPal.
