I believe building confidence and overcoming the ‘maths is hard mentality’ is key to students progressing and exceeding their targets.
I left the RAF 2004 where I had been an Aircraft Electrical Engineer. During my service I studied with the Open University to gain my degree. I had spent a number years as an instructor in the RAF so becoming a teacher seemed an good choice for a new career when I left. I enjoy seeing students suddenly 'get it'.
I have been a Secondary School Maths Teacher for 9 years currently work in a department which has had an 80% A* to C pass rate for the last 10 years; well above the nation average. So I know how to help my students achieve that higher grade.
I have also worked with low ability and SEN students and have found most are capable of progress if the pace is correct and they are given the confidence to make mistakes.
Confidence is key; I believe in building on success.
