Head of Maths for the last six years at a large, high performing Haringey secondary school. I have taught over 10,000 hours of maths lessons and over 1000 hours of private tuition over 12 years as an outstanding teacher since completing my teacher training at the University of Warwick. I started my teaching career 12 year ago after leaving my city job as a Chartered Accountant. My students consistently achieve exceptional results at GCSE.
My 2024 GCSE class achieved a progress average of 1.4 (on average students achieved 1.4 grades higher than expectations based on their SATS results in Year 6). As a department we achieved a progress score of 0.6. In 2017 my class achieved 16 grade 9s in the first year of the new 9-1 GCSE.
I have an expert knowledge of the GCSE maths syllabus and know exactly how to best prepare students to maximise their grades. My sessions are carefully planned to build confidence and understanding over time. I have vast experience in maths curricula design and will create a tailored scheme of learning for each student according to their individual needs.
What I really enjoy is giving confidence to students who would not consider maths their strongest or most enjoyable subject. I gain great satisfaction from seeing these students achieve the grades they need for their next steps and most importantly removing the 'fear of maths' that many young people experience.
I am unashamedly exam focussed and slightly results obsessed. I will teach you no more and no less than what you need to nail that exam! My private students often exceed their target grades by one or two grades. I enjoy helping those aiming for those crucial grade 4s and 5s just as much as those aiming for grade 9s.
My approach is exam and results focused, whilst adapting to individual needs and building confidence and resilience in problem solving. My extensive understanding of the GCSE syllabus, common student misconceptions, the most effective way of communicating key concepts and directing independent study ensures rapid progression in confidence, understanding and grades. I teach students no more or no less than they need to achieve exam success whether they are targeted a grade 9 or a grade 4.
I work closely with parents and provide honest feedback on their child's current working grade and progress.
Online tuition is very popular and I have an extremely effective method of online delivery. Alternatively, tutoring can take place at your house if reasonably local to Muswell Hill, or at my house on Dukes Avenue (we may at times be interrupted by a toddler or a cat).
I encourage a no commitment, initial meeting with student and parent to discuss requirements and for all parties to decide upon the best approach. I am 100% committed to ensuring that every one of my private students exceeds expectations. Please get in touch to discuss further.
